Thread: Question

  1. #1

    Default Question

I love watching the TV show How It's Made.
Tonight they showed how metal lures are made.
    Pure Copper
    Nickel Plated
    Gold Plated
What step of the manufacturing process is omitted for the Gold Plated lures??
    And Why?

I was surprised that the chicken feather is hand tied to a spinner (Mepps) treble hook.
I've seen so many things made with machines and robots, it's interesting that actual people still do some of the manufacturing by hand.
I think the lures (Spoons/Wobblers) I watched being made were for Salmon fishing.

    Doug,
Don't know the answer to your question. If you like those kind of shows you will love this web site:

    Eric,
    Thanks for the site!
One more CLUE; It is the FINAL Step in the Lure making process. The Gold plated lure doesn't need the Final Step.
    WHY?

    Because gold doesn't tarnish.

Nickel, Brass, Silver and Copper tarnish.
Gold doesn't, so the final step of putting Laquer on the metal lure is omitted for the gold plated lure.
Thanks Ol Blue for your correct answer!
