Thread: How many flies do you have?

  1. #1

Default How many flies do you have?

I know this is occasionally done to death, but it feels like the right time to do it again. It kind of goes hand in hand with the "How many flies do you tie" thread? Ballpark is good enough.

Right now I'd guess I have about 1500 and I'm a piker. There's folks out there with a lot more than that....a lot more. It'a a sickness I tell you..a sickness for which there is no cure.

This is ONLY a guess: maybe 4000 or more but the majority of these are stored as extras NOT carried.

I probably only carry a few hundred while fishing which is still pretty sick if you ask me.

EVEN with my shoes and socks off, I can't count that high!!
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

About 150 pike flys, About 500 or so trout flies. Not to mention the ones sacraficed to the bushes, given away, and those tied for swaps.

Edit: And Since this is flies I have I guess those lost and given away don't count. Probably tied over a 1000 this year.

I have 11 fly boxes... I am going to say close 1000 flies.. Everything from spey, saltwater, trout to a few poppers for smallmouth.

I still feel the need for more...

    Hi RW,

Haven't seen you posting for a while. I counted them all up one rainy day last fall and forgot the number , but I would guess somewhere between 1,00O-1,200. 8T

i tie quite a bit and am not even going to try to guess. I go for gills and bass and carry about 200-300 flies with me on the water. I am getting more boxes and patterns, so this summer i should have more on me. I'd say only half the flies i tie are worth keeping, and the rest get cut off the hooks, so that i can use them again.

Approx. 4000, everything from Medium Sslt Water flies to little tiny Midges. Most are tied by me a lot by friends in swaps and about 100 I have purchased. John
I wish you all everlasting flies and tight lines.

I counted a few places so I could come closer.
With what is in the boxes in my vest I guesss I am at about 4,000 now.
I can quit anytime I want to.
    I have never wanted to.

I would estimate somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000. This is only a really rough guess though.
My one wish is that when I die my wife doesn't sell my fishing stuff for what I told her I paid for it...
