Thread: Fly Fishing near Kansas City, MO?

Default Fly Fishing near Kansas City, MO?

I'm gonna be stuck in Kansas City, MO all day this Saturday with nothing to do so I was hoping to take the 5 wt and my gear and maybe rent a car.

Anywhere CLOSE to Kansas City to go fly fish? I'd prefer a stream/river.

I'd also like to not have to drive more than 1.5 hours if need be.

    Any ideas? TIA.

    Dear Fisherpup,

Dude, the high temperature forecast for Saturday is 32 with very high winds. If I were you I'd forget the fishing and gorge on BBQ.

    Best Wishes,

    Default As Avalon says.....

Even if weather conditions were ideal, if you're interested in trouting, there's nothing close.
Even in K.C. there's got to be a fly shop...a place to spend some time and BS.
    50 miles from Kansas City...early summer,,+

    Photo...I give up..for some reason...it's small.
Anyway, sounds like you have a compadre...I would have suggested my Uncle...but the only thing he does well is kill turkeys!

fisherpup, there is not going to be any fishing to be had in k.c this saturday. plenty of good warmwater stuff nearby if it were warmer. the closest trout fishing is about two and a half hours south in lebanon, mo. at the bennett spring state park. there are a couple of good fly shops to hang out in if you're interested and there is also a cabela's in kansas city, ks. if you want more info on anything, send me a p.m. and i'll give you my phone number and i can give you directions to about anyplace you'd want to go. avalon's suggestion on the bbq is not a bad one either.

Bennet Spring is going to be the only one that you'll be able to fish. I drove by James A. Reed (warmwater) and the lakes were frozen over still. As mentioned, if all else fails then you can spend some time at any of the flyshops or Cabellas.

Sorry to dissapoint you with the lack of fishing,

    Thunderthumbs.

Where are you staying? I'm wanting to head down to TX sometime this year to do some saltwater fly fishing. If you'd like to get together for a coffee, drink, lunch and talk some fishing I'd be more than happy. We can even visit some of the said flyshops.

OH,NO!!! Not when there are good flyshops, Cabelas, and BBQ!!! There are two super shops in the immediate area, and another super one in Lawrence, about 30 minutes away. And that didn't count Cabelas!! PM me or dpenrod, and we'll get you going! Or, pick you up, and haul you around to each and all, including BBQ!!!
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.

Be at the Radisson City Center. Looks like it's gonna be sunny, cold and windy. Are any of the flyshops near the downtown area?

And I can always eat BBQ!

I'd look for, in this order, a good wind-protected pond and Arthur J. Bryants. You can always find a fly shop. JGW
