Default What would you use and WHY?

Wisconsin opener. March 03. It is 4 degrees out. The water temp is just above freezing. There is no wind and the sky is clear
The hole is approximately 8 feet in the center. The bridge ruins have a sheer step drop at the end of the fast water.

    Default that makes sense

didn't think of that was too obvious...

Tried to talk a big trout in to eating...

Both things thrown in that hole were size 6.

Down and slow with long pauses that talk trout in to hitting.

A coneheaded turkey leech and a weighted hornberg.

Would that be a floating line?

    Spinner1,

If you really want to catch a fish under those condiditons (or 'need' to):

Live nightcrawler on a #6 light wire hook, no weight on four pound test fished with a spinning rod.

    Why?

'Cause that big old fish is hungry after the winter, all he's been eating are itty bitty bugs.

He'll absolutley LOVE that big old worm.

That's assuming that the fish in the pool are onger than about ten inches...

For me, it's too dang cold to go outside, much less fish. It'll warm up eventually....

    Good Luck!

If I could catch that fish with itty bitty bugs on a fly rod I certainly wouldn't use a night crawler or spinning gear later on. There's flies to imitate that nightcrawler too. (as you know).
I'm in Co., so I agree about the "too dang cold" part.

I would use a 18-20 zebra midge same reason fish are not eating big just now. might use a 16-18 rince nympth or hare ear to.
