They get 'paid', either with cash or products, to wear all that stuff, just like the car drivers do.
At the lower levels of the sport (maybe right at the lower third of the top 100), guys who really love to do it are struggling to make ends meet so that they can afford to stay fishing full time. They make lots of deals to make or save money.
Looks ridiculous, I'll admit, but who cares what it looks like if it lets you live your 'dream'?

You probably missed a short lived program called On the Pole. The plot summary was this, 2 NASCAR drivers go fishing with a BASS Pro. Say what you want about the look those Bubbas know how to get 'er done and have a good time doing it. I hope this lowers your cabin feaver.
