Thread: A.K. Best Tying DVD's

    Default A.K. Best Tying DVD's

They recently re-released the VHS videos on DVD. Anyone seen these videos? Would you recommend them? The DVD's are $30 a piece. Any of them better than the other? (Dry flies, nymphs, mayflies, terrestrials-caddis-midges, streamers)

What about Rotary Fly-Tying Techniques by Mike Holt?

I got the Al Beatty DVD on Rotary Tying Techniques for Christmas and found it very informative. You might want to consider it as well.

    Hi Badger,

Go to www.videoventures.com. You can select any pattern you want to be burned to a DVD and sent directly to you!

    Good luck,

    A. K.

Thanks for the personel reply, however when I go to the site it seems like a spam site. I cannot find your videos at all, but I am a big fan, so maybe I will just purchase them anyways. Lots of good reviews. Thanks again. -Badger

    Hi Badger,

I have A.K.'s series in VHS. I think they are the most thought through presentations. Especially regarding proportions. I would suggest Dry Flies as a first video and then pick the patterns you like as A.K. suggested.

A.K.'s "Tying Dry Flies" shows you how to tie every part of a dry fly - tails, hackle, wings, body, etc. - and the many materials you can use and how they need to be tied on differently. It is excellent.

Badger, I too tried the one he suggested and ended up at a spam site. I think the link that Mr. Best refers to is now located at:

    http://www.tangibledata.com/feathercraft/

This site allows you to choose the patterns you want and place them onto a DVD. After quickly looking through the patterns list it appears that there are quite a few of Mr. Best's flies there. Hope that this helps!

Oh, and hello all, I have been reading the forums and site for quite a while now, but this is my first post
