    Default Something to consider

This is from the head of the Emergency Training center here. Some pretty good advice.

ICE - In Case of Emergency
    (A Review of the Concept)
The concept of "ICE" is catching on quickly. It is simple, yet an
important method of contact during emergency situations. As cell phones
are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is
store the number of a person or persons who should be contacted during
an emergency as "ICE" (meaning In Case of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to
the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients,
but they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it
would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name for this
    purpose.

Following a disaster in London, the East Anglican Ambulance Service has
launched a national "In Case of Emergency (ICE)"
    campaign.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital
staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply
dialing the number stored as "ICE."

Please forward this. It won't take too many "forwards" before everybody
will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved
    one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. A
great idea that will make a difference.
Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

Don't look back, we ain't goin' that way.

    Hey Betty,
The ONLY thing I hate about the "ICE" idea is that I DIDN'T think of it.

Great and helpful post. It is much appreciated.

Betty, thanks so much. So simple! I'm going to forward this message to all my loved ones right now.

Sad to say, as a paramedic, that as a result of the hassle imposed on us here by peoples "property", we do not touch phones, wallets, jewellery or anything else not directly related to emergency care. I don't know if police would scan a phone too much either... Nice idea though I agree. Shame the world is so litigious.

Normally either the hospital or law enforcement will do the calling in the U.S.A. They will check your cell phone, palm pilot, p.d.a. or anything for your emergency contact numbers. Thank you, Betty.

Good idea! I found a cellphone once- on the street- and thumbed thru the numbers 'til I found "home" and called it. I got the phone back to them, but the Ice Idea sounds even better. Thanks for sharing this Betty.

My wife and I have had ICE on our cell phones for several years after she read about it. Talking our daughters into using it has been a bit slower. Seems like a good idea to us.
Thanks for letting everyone know Betty.
