    Default Bluefish fly

Anyone ever fish for bluefish with a fly that is tied on a long shank s/s hook, with the head of minnow right up from where the barb is. I read in a magazine that that is one way to get a way from having to use a steel leader. It's a surf candy with less than 1/4 of the ultra hair on the hook. Just wondering if they work????

They work very well.I have tied and used them for years with good results. They get more hits if tied with bucktail but dont last as long as ultra hair.Always epoxy the head to protect the thread.

I heard and read that the fish like the ultra hair as much as the bucktail. I guess not. Do you get many bite-offs?

Synthetics just dont move as well as natural hairs like bucktail.I have always done better with bucktail flies. As far as bite-offs go,you still get a few but not near as many as with other flies.
