I am tying traditional Salmon flies so the Mallard flank feathers and the teal flank would be great. Please let me know how I can help cover the shipping or what I can do to help to cover the costs. I am like you when I go hunting, hate to see all of that good fly tying material get thrown away.
Now ... just where do you suppose these went to .........
Never realized the white feathers are barred at the tips ...... hrmpfff ..... the things you notice when you start tying flies ......
Pardon the beast there - it was his first full retrieve (yesterday) ... and he danged well knows he done good.
Aside of this getting in the way of fishing - I did find a good place for monster carp - all was not lost
Now - I have some patterns in mind for the white feathers - anyone have a notion for the blue ones ?

"Ain't too proud to beg!"
Coot body feathers make a great leech pattern. Coot are a protectecd species like flamigoes. You can shoot them for yourself, but you can't sell them.
That is why you will not find them for sale in any catalogues.
You can give them to someone, but no money can change hands.
Rick
I would love to have some of your excess feathers if you end up with any left. Please PM me with mailing cost I will get it right out to you. John
I wish you all everlasting flies and tight lines.
Man that is very generous, I could use some duck wings to use for wets. I'll pm you my address and you let me know how much you need for shipping them and it's on it's way.
Thanks again,
Fatman
Feathers are all in the mail. I got a few more requests than anticipated (over 30) so they were spread out a bit more than I would have liked.
Hope you all can put them to good use.

Rick, Your statement about Coots being protected is correct, but not at the same extent as a flamingo. Coots are protected by the UNITED STATES FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE, DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, as a migratory waterfowl. There is a season and bag limit for the taking of coots by hunter within the legal means subscribed by the USFW Service. Whereas there is no hunting season and bag limit for flamingo, in the U.S.Coot body feathers make a great leech pattern. Coot are a protectecd species like flamigoes. And as far as "no money exchanging hands" that is not exactly true also. An individuals that has taken waterfowl by legal means, can possess, sell, barter, import, export, transport, and ship any feathers and skins without a permit, to anyone they wish.
The statutes of the USFW Service states that 'ANYONE' can hunt, possess, trade, and sell any migratory fowl "feathers" for the commercial sell of fly tying, pillows, and mattresses: Please find below; I have listed both statues for commercial and personal use of migratory fowl feathers; You will notice that under the personal use, it states that an individual my possess whole fowl skins, but the commercial statute only indicates the specific use/sell of feathers. See below for the statute from the USFW Service;

I am sorry if I have offended anyone, It was not my intension to do so. I have seen this same subject on other forums. It just seemed to me that this is not that hard a subject to understand. It is clearly outlined in the statutes. I hope this will help clear up what is not that unclear.
I am going by what I was told by the folks at Feather Craft.
The coot has a webbed foot like the flamingo. Thus the feathers can not be sold even though the bird can be hunted.
