    Default casting in wind.

i cant get any distance when the wind gets much above 10mph. im using a 9' 9wt w/ 225gr line most of the time, occasionaly a floater or int.

A well timed double haul combined with tight loops will help drive a cast into the wind.

Casting downwind, use a low back cast and aim your presentation cast high to use the wind to your advantage.

Also, if your 225gr line is a typical integrated line that has a 30ft sinking head attached to a floating or intermediate running line, then the line may be part of the problem. A 300-400 grain line may be a better match. Check the line manufacturers matching rod wt recommendations for the line you have.

No one has a poor DH. Either they can do it... or not.

I'm not a big fan of giving casting advice sight unseen, but I do fish in the wind quite a bit.
In combination with a DH I put some body english into it.
On the back cast I extend my arm completely back, stabbing the rod tip toward the sky at the end of the power stroke, at the same time twisting my torso to give the rod tip maximum distance
Watch your back cast to make sure you stop dead
On the foward power stroke twist your torso back to give the cast extra umph.
Be sure to come to a complete stop.

There are dance steps involved too that prefer not to discuss at this time.

Tighten up yer loops. (Stop the rod higher..both ways!!) Increase yer line speed. Shorten yer leader as much as is reasonable and "sidearm" it a bit more...

I find these help me a lot.

And you mentioned being able to cast better...practice often when you aren't fishing. It's fun. Try it.
