Thread: Canoe/kayak transport, any of them stand out?

My trouble goes well beyond drip rails. I drive a soft top Wrangler and I have no roof rack system at all. I can only haul the kayak with the top down, so I don't get out much in the rain.

I tried using the canoe loader, but the kayak is too short for it to work. One of these days I'll build a rack for it. Meanwhile, I borrow my wife's Astro van and I'm off...

Jesus still hangs out with fishermen.

Does anybody use a trailer? I saw a Thule one at my local sporting goods shop... and it looked pretty interesting.

    Hex,

I had a guy and gal pull up next to me at a launch. They made their kayak trailer out of a small boat trailer. They had a box on the main frame with doors that folded down on each side. They stored their broken down paddles, fishing rods, PFD's, tackle boxes, etc. Then they mounted a tower (like this ? ) on top of the box that would carry 4 kayaks. Sweet rig.

I think a single jetski trailer would be just about all you'd need to start. Depending on the length of the kayaks though you may have to extend the trailer's tongue a little. Not sure about that though as I haven't looked at them that close .... yet.

    Hey Folks,

I guess the bottom line is the best loader is a paddling companion.
That extra set of hands is darned hard to beat. Not to mention some
will share expenses on gas and chow and such. My only problem with
that is most of my paddling/fishing friends are still married to the job.
Being retired, it's a pain to have to schedule your adventures around
someone elses work schedule.*G* Warm regards, Jim

    I've seen it ... I just can't find it.

    Help!
