Thread: Question on the Breadcrust Nymph FOTW

  1. #1

Default Question on the Breadcrust Nymph FOTW

I've been looking at that and wondering if there would be a way a la Al Campbell's Too Simple approach to make this thing more easily substituting punch yarn for the body and scud back for the wrapping.

My thought is to pull the yarn up between the wrappings of the scud back material.

What do you all think? Would this fly catch?

    Thanks,
    Terry

I was looking at that pattern, and the only thing that put me off, from dressing that pattern was the splitting of the stem, and scraping the inner pulp.

My thinking is to use what I have on hand, that I do not readily use, to create the same effect.

Use pheasant tail material (the tip sections, that rarely get used), strip one side, and clip the other side to 1/16 inch length. Soak in water, then place stems in a wet cloth folded over (to help them stay moist). I get the same effect, with a lot less hassle. The tip sections of the pheasant tail, stems are narrow enough to not distract from the effect, and the clip barbs give the same effect on the pattern.

Steven, That's a good idea using the tips of pheasant tail. I will have to try this.
