Default Almost Want To Change My Handle

I used to be "smallmouth" until I forgot my password and re-registered as "speck". Now as much as smallmouth bass and speckled trout have neen my favoured species I now have a new favourite.

I recently spent some time on a quality bluegill lake. Catching 10 " bluegills on topwater spiders after presenting the fly underneath the overhanging branches made me feel like a kid again. No wonder Dave Whitlock has been touting these fish for so long. My 3 weight Temple Forks also became my favourite rod during this experience. Every once in a while the bug would be sipped in by a 4 or 5 pound bass. Gotta love that warm water fishing!

nice pics, I wish there were gills like that in the lake here. I too love catching bass and panfish on topwater flies. Its exciting to watch them come up and sip your fly off the surface.

    Default Bluegill Fishing

    Yeah,

I live in Southern Ontario,Canada. The last two summers I have accompanied my friend on his annual trek to the states where we catch these beautiful 'gills. When I was a teenager (many many years ago) I used to catch Bluegills like that in some of Lake Ontario's backwaters. Sure wish I knew of a place not to far from home that had Bluegills like that stateside lake.

I live in North East PA and in the lake I fish the average size gill ranges from 2" to 5". Yours is a monster compared to the ones here.
