    Default first catch

I pulled my son out of bed early this morning, and took him down to a local creek to try his hand at fly fishing before things got too hot. I built him a rod, and we've been practicing in the yard for a while, but haven't been out for fish yet. I put on a small popper, and turned him loose. First cast:

Later on, when things slowed down for the gills we started stripping on the retreive, and here is his first bass:

OK, I'm ready for trout season! He's going to be going with me this year. I've been waiting for this for a long time.

Sorry these pics are so small. I was trying to save some space for FAOL.

    Blue,
Way to Cool. I can not wait till my brothers kids are ready to to start to Fly Fishing.
Tell him to keep up the good work.
Maybe he will drag you out of bed some day.

I've got a brand-spanking new nephew this week, and I'm already itching to get the little guy out on the water!! Those pictures are great, some of my best fishing memories involve kids and fish.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

Yeah, it was the high point of the fishing year so far. The only better part will be when I get my new fishing partner this fall for trout season. The steam we were fishing in is the one we'll be trout fishing in later, so this was also to get him used to the area.
Nothing better than watching him do the first one by himself. I'm also going to get him to tie a fly or 2 before trout season.
