    Default Stimulators

I have only tied them with dull orange body and an orange or peacock thorax. I use them for trout fishing.

What colors do you find most effective?

I have tied them mostly in a size 12 and size 10. But I have been wondering if they are generally more successful in a smaller size. What do you think?

Orange for the large salmonfly hatch..but like anything even then it can vary...

Yellow for the Yellow stonefly hatch...

Smaller works quite well in a Mayfly hatch....

    Pretty darn versatile fly...hoppers, caddis

    Try tying with rubber legs...

Get Kaufmann's catalog and each year you'll see many different types....

The Stimulator is probably my favorite dry fly. I tie them from a size 6 to 12. Usually I use a bright orange body with a yellow thorax. It works great for Salmon fly or October Caddis hatch. I have also found they work great as an attracter all summer. I will also use an all yellow or amber one when the yellow stones are out.

I think Orange and Yellow are my favorites, anywhere from 6 to 18, but I've also used Black, Brown, Goldenstone, Olive, and Red.

Hey Diane... I bet the brown ones work real well on the Owyhee as a Skwala?

I couldn't tell you; we never used them there. We've only gone couple of times, and the last time was this Spring after the water level finally went down. It was a mess. I wish we could get to the Owyhee more we do now, but it's a long drive from our place and the price of gas keeps us local. But I'll ask around and see if they use them there.

Works nicely for smallies as well. Especially the orange ones.
