Thread: Shad Swap

  1. #1

    Default Shad Swap

    Hi-

If you haven't ever fly fished for shad, then you're missing out in a major way. Shad fight as hard as anything if fresh water. Most of the flies are fun and easy to tie.

I have never been in a swap but am very interested. It just seems like i am often too late to sign up. Since this if my first, i may need some guidance.

Anyway, my idea is to have a Shad fly swap, as in flies to use to catch American Shad. I would like to keep things on the lighter side (maybe less than 1/8oz), but just tie what you like.

Swap is for 10 people. Straight forward everyone ties 9 of their pattern, and in return gets one each of everyone elses flies. First come first served.

Lets make a sign up deadline of saturday, june 10.

Submission deadline June 25, but the sooner the better.

Please everyone send your flies in an envelope and box big enough And strong enough to hold the flies you will be getting back. Also please enclose a self addressed envelope with return postage To send them back to you. I will be shipping first class mail uninsured unless you request otherwise. Please toe tag your flies with the name Of the fly and your name and email addy.

Everyone should tie whatever they like best for shad, as long as nobody else is already tying it. Please post the fly you will be tying.

RC I would like to get in on your swap, with a white clouser type flie. If that is ok with you. I have sent you an email. I am far from being an expert but I will help in anyway I can. You do need to put up a signup deadline and also a deadline date for the flies to be to you. Please let me know if I can help you in anyway. John

    RC,

I will join....just need some clarification. Not sure what type if fish you are targeting......? Are you trying to catch shad or make a shad immitation?

If I may add a tip.....this is what I did. I just started my first swap a few weeks ago. I was in the same place you were. Just read bassman's site and looked at several other swaps first post. Go back and edit yours and make it say most of the same things that others say. There seems to be a general format that makes it run well. Hope this helps.

If you would rather just join your first and let someone else run it....I would be happy to. However, it really isn't that hard and I am sure you can do it.

    Have a good one, Barry

RC Barry gives some real good advice. Just look at some of the other swap post you will see how the are listed and how they are run. I just sent the flies back out for a swap I have been running it is a great swap and very successful. All of the swappers will help you. We all took our turn at conducting our first swap. One thing to always remember communications is the most important thing. Keep intouch with your swappers, let them know what is happening with the swap and their flies. Any time I can help please let me know. John

RC. It is a good idea to edit your first post above and add the names of the swappers that join in the swap, along with the fly they will be tying. Just some advice. Also here is the recipe for my fly.John

    Thread: Danville White
