    Default Starting the fire

I'm getting my oldest primed for his first trout season which opens this October, so my buddy and I took our oldest boys out on a catfishing trip. They are on summer patterns, and were too deep for flyfishing, but boy we got the fishing fire lit! Here are the 2 of them with a couple from the trip.

Since we got back, we've been out back practicing flycasting with his new Forecast rod that I built him, and now I'm ready for October! I'm just as excited as he is. Hopefully this winter I'll be able to post a picture of his first flyrod trout.

Nothing gets the blood a'boiling like a fat cat tugging on the other end of the line! For dad or son!

Hey, why not take him out to pester bluegills and bass while waiting for trout season to open? A good way to keep interest high with my seven year old I have found.

We got both families together right after we got back and cooked them up for everyone.
We are definitely going after the gills before too long, but the weather has been scorching and it is hard to get out mornings and evenings when the bite is on. But we are planning on heading out next week to chase them. I've got a spot close to home with some medium gills. They should be big enough to light up the boy's 4 weight.

Is that Raders lodge you were at. FIshed there last June and tore the whites up at night.

Those smiles say it all. I bet yours were even bigger. It looks like you all had a blast, with the promise of a lot more to come. Way to go!
