Well I have three kayaks mounted atop the cargo trailer and soon our family will head to the Sierra to beat ther heat and I'll attempt to dredge-up a trout or two.

I'm approaching fishing the deep clear lake in two ways:

1) I have set up a 7/8 weight trolling rig using a Jim Teeny Heavy Chuck and Duck sinking line. I'll be paddle trolling streamers down 15-20 feet if I can. Also If I find fish, roll casts will be made with the rig. Hopefully anyways.

2) Rigged a 4 wt. to fish nymphs for the early and late rises. I'll search out the area of the lake that are alive using the kayak and have the option of beaching the craft and wading the shoreline with this too.

I'm going to put the 7 wt in a Scotty Fly Rod holder and lash the 4 wt to the aft deck so I have both with me. I may even troll a new sppon fly that I have developed using a conventional Kayak rod. I like to work with short boat rods. A seat I'm using has rod holders built into the back of it for conventional rod handles.

If I do catch a few, I'll report back.

Any tips and tricks on fishing deep lakes and fly recommendations appreciated.

Thanks
