FAOL Virtual Fly Swap ? Size #6 Streamers

Q: What is a virtual Swap?

A: A Virtual Fly Swap is a fly swap that takes place on-line and does not involve the physical exchange of flies. The participants, following the directions of the Virtual Fly Swap Host, submit their ?V-Fly? to the host as an image & text file. The image and written instructions for the fly pattern are sent-in via E-Mail or can also be sent via a PM (Personal Message) through the FAOL Bulletin Board.

The Swap Host complies the virtual fly swap images and creates an image file that can be e-mailed to participants. Alternately, these files can be hosted on a website and shared using links to a web page where the V-Fly images and text can be viewed by the participating Tyers and FAOL members.

Virtual Fly Swaps avoid the time, expense and complications of mailing flies around the world. Additionally, the virtual swap offers the enjoyment of quick turnaround times. A typical Virtual fly Swap can be completed within one week?s time.

FAOL Virtual Fly Swap #1 - Size #6 Streamers -July 23, 2006

Rules:? Host: FlyMaker2
? Deadline: Images and text due Midnight, Saturday-July 29, 2006? V-Fly: Steamer on Size #6 hook. Freshwater or Saltwater patterns OK. Note: Clouser Deep Minnows, Wooly Worms & Wooly Buggers are not accepted in this particular V- Fly Swap. Sorry.
? Limited to 6 (six) tyers including the host
o Each participating tyer shall possess a digital camera of at least 3 MPI and have the ability to send a JPEG image of the fly to the host. (if you have a film camera and an optical scanner and can deal with the process of creating JPEGs, then that equipment is acceptable as well).
o The V-Fly shall be tied during the timeframe of the V-Fly Swap & shall not be tied beforehand; nor be a store-bought fly. This is an honor system.
? Image: Your V-Fly image shall be taken against a plain, uncluttered background & with sufficient lighting to show pertinent details of the fly pattern. The better your image, the better the overall results of this Virtual Swap will be. You may crop the image and re-size the image to a minimum size of 6? Wide X 4? Tall and a resolution of 72 dpi. Alternately, raw images, or large JPEG images may be sent to the host. Make your image represent the best features of your V-Fly. Note: Ultimately, the Virtual Fly Swap Host is responsible for the final image format.
? Tying Information: Each V-Tyer will submit the following minimum tying instructions with his or her Virtual-Fly Swap pattern entry:

List Of Materials:
1. Hook
2. Thread
3. Tail
4. Body
5. Underbody
6. Legs
7. Winging materials (main wing-top wing etc)
8. Adhesives
9. Coatings
10. Special Instructions and or equipment needed to tye the V-Fly.

Optional Instructions: Step By Step Tying instructions in text form are optional.

Review: Each qualified participating tyer will sign-up for this swap by posting in this thread on a first come, first served basis. The host will monitor the posts and announce in a post when the V-Swap is full. Let the Host know what fly you will be tying. Your pattern may be traditional or specially designed for the swap; just so long as it is a streamer tied on a size #6 hook per above listed limitations.

Tye your pattern, take a good photo of the V-Fly, create a materials list and E-Mail them to the V-Swap Host by the deadline. The host will compile the images and send each swap participant the group?s images or provide links for viewing them on a web page. The host will provide the swap results within 48 hours of the V-Swap deadline or sooner. The idea is to have a fast, quality swap with photos to share and pattern instructions to allow duplication of these flies by the community.

Notes: It may take about two or three hours of your time to tye your fly, image it, write-up the instructions and send them off to your host. It can be done much quicker than that once you are familiar with the process. The host can expect to invest an extra hour per participant to facilitate a Virtual Fly swap. Communicate swap-related issues through the FAOL bulletin board. E-Mail , or PM your host regarding issues or problems with your entry.
