    Default Weighted Nymph Swap

    Hi All,

I've decided to host a fly swap! I've never participated in one before, but when I read the article about fly swaps on this board, I felt I just had to do one. It doesn't sound too complicated, and I don't mind organizing one. Please remember that I live in Canada, so I'm going to spread out the dates to account for any delays at the border.

Here are a few of the details:

Tiers will tie a weighted or bead-headed nymph pattern for trout.

The swap will have 5 participants (myself and 4 others).

Each tier will tie a dozen flies so that three (3) may be sent to each of the other four participants.

The deadline to join the swap is December 11, 2005.

The flies should be received in Canada by January 31, 2006.

Those interested in joining the swap, please respond to my personal mailbox for more details.

Thanks, I look forward to a great swap.

    Swap participants:

    1. Andrew Mann - #12 Plain Jane Weevil (two black, one copper) - Received
    2. Jack Hise - pheasant tail bead-head - Received
    3. Diane - *changed to a new fly* - Received
    4. Jim Smith - pine squirrel nymph - Received
    5. Greg Qualls - copper head - Received

The swap is full - but Dan, you're first on the list should anyone drop out.

I'll tie a BH turkey tail so folks can see the contrast with the pheasant. Besides, it catches fish.

I'll jump in on this one as well. I'll advise what I will be tying in a few days.

    Andrew,

I'd love to get in on this swap. I've never tied for a swap before but I'm looking forward to it. I'll be tying a size 18 copperhead for the swap.

Can't resist anymore, how about a prince helgramite. Dan Gober I'll be a relief swapper if you need one.

    Andrew/All,

The nymph that I will be submitting to the swap is one I call the Pine Squirrel. It somewhat resembles a beadhead GRHE, but it is tied with pine squirrel. The receipe is as follows:

    Tail: Pine Squirrel fur
Body: Pine squirrel/antron yarn mix dubbing
    Ribbing: Fine gold wire
    Hackle: Indian Hen (mottled)
    Beadhead: Clear plastic bead

This nymph is weighted under the dubbing which allows for more of a nose-up attitude in the water. The clear plastic bead resembles an air bubble with the nymph rising to the surface. I hope you have as much luck with this pattern as I have.

    Andrew,

My flies are ready for shipping. Can you please provide the shipping address.

Also, can I suggest that all flies have toe tags with the persons name/handle and that the return envelope be addressed but money provided for the return Canadian postage rather than U.S. stamps.

    Thanks.
