Lost and/or ripped off in the mail

Has anyone ever had a problem with flies either being lost and/or stolen in the U.S. Mail? An Altoids tin might feel like it has something valuable inside if you're just feeling the envelope. In that case, there might be a disappointed thief.

What about a package arriving but ripped open and the flies missing?

I use the Video Tape sized box that the PO gives away for Express Mail. The box is generic and I don't believe it attracks attention like a padded envelope does. I have had no problems sending or recieving items (including flys for a swap).

No matter what size box I'm sending I try to use the padded envelopes. I also tape the flaps and corners if possible to further secure the envelope.

In the past I have had packages arrive with a tear in them and the flies missing. Both times that happened the folks sending the flies got them back, courtesy of the USPS, because they had an address label permanently attached to the fly box/Altoids tin. In both cases they were using plain manila envelopes, unpadded.

lost flies three times last year during the Flymph swap. It was helllllll!

You should put your name and address on the container you ship your flies in. I just received mine back on saturday with a note. The note said the padded envelope was torn open but they saw my name on the tin can and mailed them back to me. I wish they had put their name and address so I could send them a thank you note.

I lost flies last year in a swap and have since gone to padded rather than unpadded envelopes. No problems since. Taping your name and address to the Altoids box helps significantly. JGW
