Thread: Winter Steelhead Swap

1. #31

My PC has been out of commission for about 5 days, I just got it back up today.
I ran into trouble when I decided to remove the software for my old camera.
I am a little behind with the swap but I will be on time. I am tying a fly called the 'Goat's Toe'. It is a modern version of an Irish fly very popular on the Western Isles for sea-trout. Pattern to follow.

Ok here is what I have been tying for this swap. Actually I have tied up two patterns. The first pattern is this yellow perch, the recipe is listed here... http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/Forum5/HTML/003805.html[/url:5e0ca] The second fly is green "Chum Salmon Slammer" that you can look at here. http://www.angelfire.com/wa/salmonid/fly514.html[/url:5e0ca] I know neither of these flies is a "winter steelhead" fly but I am sure that they will work.
EDIT-The green chum slammer should pass as a egg fly of sorts and the red fins on the perch should get some fishy attention as well

This is a picture of the 'Goat's Toe'.
It is tied on a #8 wet fly hook and the tail is GloBrite #3 fluo crimson multi-yarn.

The hackle is a bit bigger than the recipe states but it is a bigger fly than is usually tied for loch style drift fishing.

Hey Stu, DUCK !!! There are a bunch of bullets heading your way. 13 Krystal Bullets for the swap plus a few for swapmiester. Thanks much for running swap and allowing me to participate.
Krystal Bullet- Optic
Hook- Mustad-36890 size 8
Thread- UTC- size 140- Flour. Pink
Tail- Flouro Fibre- hot pink- 1 1/2 times as long as width of hook gep
Body- medium, chenille- Flour. rose- start body above hook barb, come forward 7 wraps then reverse over self for two wraps than forward again to end of 7th wrap. This is to form shoulder to flair the wing.
Wing- Krystal Flash- Orange- Tie wing on in front of eye sticking out over hook eye. Then pull wing to rear, completely circling hook. and tie in with a throat just behind the eye. Trim wing for length to go to mid point of tail.
Eye- medium dumbell with painted pupils. Tie eye on hook about size of one wrap of chenille in front of where chenille wraps ended. This allows space to tie in throat to flair wing.
Tail- Body and wing can be any color combination you wish.
