Sunshine Coast Fishing Report
July 27, 2005

With the great weather lately many of the lakes on the Sunshine Coast have been very productive. Klien lake has had some great dry fly action recently. Tom thumbs and royal coachman flies have been the best bet when the insects are moving on the surface. North lake has been best with minnow patterns down deep. Using your fast sinking line is the way to go. Rainbow imitations as well as mickey finns and rolled muddlers are a great place to start.
Garden Bay lake has been giving up some fish if you are down deep as well. Troll the edges of the lake with bigger muddler minnows and bead-head leeches. Black and green are working. If you have a crayfish imitation in your fly-box this is a great lake to give it a shot on. Cast in close to shore near any type of cover you can find. Use a sinking line and retrieve very slowly along the bottom.
Richardson lake is best right now when using black micro leeches. There have also been great hatches of damsel and dragonflies every day. You will find gomphus and darner dragonflies at this beautiful lake so have both patterns on hand. An olive green bead-head damselfly twitched erratically through the weeds will be too much for the trout to pass up!
Harris lake with it's high elevation still has cooler water temperatures that are keeping the trout active. There have been many insect hatches to keep anglers busy. Tiny midges, dragons, damsels and even a few caddis to keep the surface action very exciting! Tom thumbs, humpies and Adams dries have been working well on the surface. Keep a variety of chironomids on hand in different colours for the deeper action (red or black have been best) as well as black doc spratleys, halfbacks and Caverhill nymphs
Fly fishing lessons are in full swing on the Sunshine Coast. Give us a call for a day to remember!
