    Default "Classic" Warm Water Angler?

Strictly the foamings of an overheated, non-fishing Texan. But here goes:

We all have the image of the "classic" trout angler, tweed pants, pipe, wicker creel, tie etc. etc.

But how about the "classic" warm water angler? What is your mind's eye image of this "classic" look?

    Talk amongst yourselves.

Polarized sunglasses, a straw cowboy hat (mine is a Shady Brady, made when Kennedy was president) or baseball cap, no shirt, belly-boat, and modestly priced rod....self-tied flies. Waders optional, cut off Levis are the norm.

    Hey Robin,

Heat is a big factor. For me, it's
shorts, a short sleeved shirt with pockets
for a fly box and tippet, a zinger with
nips clipped to the shirt and hemostats
clipped to my collar. The shorts have the
cargo pockets and carry a bottle of water
if going very far from the car or the boat.
A good hat, poloroids to cut the glare, and
a pair of light nylon wading shoes round out
the ensemble. Perhaps similar to what you
might see a bone fisherman wearing without
the pricey lables.*G* Warm regards, Jim

Jim Hatch and I are twins when it comes to what a warm water fly angler looks like. *G*

Polarized glasses, ball cap, old t-shirt, baggy shorts with pockets big enough to hold a single fly box jam-packed with small, gaudy-looking flies you can't find in a shop. About once a year you'll see a plastic shopping bag hanging from my waist to take some home for a little fish fry.

    ...okay, there's two scenarios here...

If I'm feeling lazy, the weather's threatening, I only have limited time; then, it's a T-shirt (colored/pocket), my fishing shorts with the netted interior that chafes, nylon beach shoes, lanyard or waist pouch and lots of fun was had by all. At my "go-to" lake you can wade, at the other you can walk the edges.

If the weather's good, plenty of time, energetic....hook up the jon boat with the aforementioned attire and off I go for several hours.

I fully subscribe to the addage, ....a bad day on the water....blah, blah, blah.

Great minds do think alike...or at least dress alike!

On my head is a wool "Field and Stream" felt hat with a sheep wool band to hold my flies..and yes, there are bugs, minnows, buggers, in the band at all times. Shorts, a guide shirt, and my Mojo necklace (clippers, hemostats,etc..) Tevas on my feet (NO CROCS).

...and a successful fishing trip will be marked by an Arturo Fuente hanging out of a smile under that hat.
