I was fishing for smallies in a small stream last summer. I saw carp feeding on the surface for a while and it looked really interesting. I thought they hit small trout flies and I had two. The first was a pheasant tail nymph and I cast it out near the commotion. As soon as the fly hit the surface a carp hit it and headed upstream. Broke me off immediately. I had a second small fly, an adams. I cast it into the vacinity and it too was immediately crushed and the carp also headed north. It too broke me off leaving me with a hell of a rush. I usually use 2 or 3x tippet but don't bother to count the nicks. I do give a good tug to check the knot and line close to the knot but...jeez. I wasn't in their league that day.
