    Default Boa Yarn flies

Any one getting boa yarn flies from me. Please put some head cement on the thread wraps. They are double whip finished but the thread is coming undone.

Not sure if it is the thread or the tyer, but do this so they will last longer.

Don't worry, Rick. I use most of the flies that are sent to me for copying so I don't fish with the originals .

I have my own tying policy. If I lash material down in a tying step with thread, it gets a drop of some kind of cement or glue. Thread heads or whip finishes always get cement or glue. I'm not into production fly tying so time is not a factor for me. Any added reinforcement always helps my flies to be more durable. Instead of five fish on one fly, I might get ten or more depending on the fly material.

Any good internet sources for boa yarn? I'm googling it and not finding any decent selection of colors. What I find is also at my local craft store and they have only two solid colors (white and black). Since these are polyester I'm told they will not dye easy.
Have to try some marker pens on white but this seems like a afterthought. The muliciloroed yarns might be good for hats and such but I'm not sure how it would work on fly.

I found some bright yellow and bright red online.
Look at the bi color boa ayrn flies in the archives of the fly of the week to see the colors.

Yes Rick, I too want to thank you for the information. I put SHHAN on almost all of my flies. I also put a drop of Super Glue on the tie in point and the tie off point when I tie Boa Yarn Leeches. John

I like to put some zap-a-gap on the hea dof the fly after I have made a few wrps with the thread.
The base of the yarn is a sort of mesh work. I like to have that very secure at the front of the fly.

Tug on the ends of the yarn alittle and you can see how the yarn will come apart.
