Well, today was opening day for me in PA. Not for trout, as the SE is just put and take, but the first trip out for smallies or whatever would hit. Water conditions are like July. I guess we really could use some rain! I decided that the leadoff fly of honor would be Peter's Baby Bugger, peacock herl with brown rabbit and brown hackle. I started at the final successful pool from last fall, on the theory that maybe what is good in the fall would be good in the spring. What a day! My timing was a little rusty so I missed some hookups I should have had, but I caught a bunch of rock bass, panfish and one smallie, which did spit the fly back at me! A lot of multi species on a proven winner of a fly. I even laughed when I slipped on some rock snot and fell in. Nothing was going to spoil the day. Whoo HOO! Was it chilly! Anyway, I'm glad to have another season started - I hope all of you have been able to get out and enjoy the water!
Cheers!
Bob
