I use a high quality, black, small size swivel like Spro power swivels to connect the tippet to wire. It doesn't hurt casting, you don't have to cut back class tippet, and switching the wire trace is breeze.

I attach the wire to the swivel with a figure 9 or clinch knot and the wire to fly with a non-slip mono loop knot. With the wire, you only need a couple of turns around the standing line when forming the knot. I attach the class tippet to the wire with a palomar knot.

I have used this for pike and large toothy saltwater critters. I have found no negatives to this system.
