    Default What happens to the fishing in FL in the winter?

    It never really occurred to me until a few minutes ago, but what happens to the fishing in FL when winter sets in? January, February, how does it change?

    I can't speak for everybody else, Robin, but to me the fishing is pretty good when the weather and water is cooler. So probably just the opposite of folks up north. Seems like summer is always the worst season for me here in Florida. Surface water temperature out on Lake Jackson yesterday was about 88 degrees and that was in between rain showers .

    Robin;

    You know where I live, so when the summer comes the flesh of our fish gets a little soft. The winter time the flesh is firm and the fish just taste better to me. When the heat is up I never keep fish. Heck it is more practice casting in the summer than catching a lot of fish. Oh sure you can have good days, but the nights are when the fish are really biting. During the winter the fish will bite anytime.
    Now the main problem we have in the winter, is the cold fronts.

    I'll tell you what come one week each month in question and you and I will do research on the question.... How's that for fun.

    Take care
    Harold

    Guys you tempt me, you tempt me. I need to get in a position to come out there for a visit. I was so enamored with Florida when I spent my brief time there. Never got to wet a hook, spent all my time with my nose to the grindstone. But on the way out I saw so many, many, many little spots in neighborhoods and such that looked so very, very, very fishy. Wow!

    OK, I make it a resolution that I will come fish FL in the various seasons.

    Back in 1997 I took the wife and kids, to Orlando FL, during the school's "Winter Break". You could tell who the locals were from the tourists, the locals were wearing sweatshirts & sweatpants, while the tourists were in shorts and short-sleeve shirts. The temperture was in the 70's.

    After a week of enjoying the warm temperatures and sunshine, Florida Immigation packed my whole family and myself, back on an airplane to the "Frozen Tundra" of Minnesota.

    Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool
    Swam three little fishies and a mama fishie too
    "Swim" said the mama fishie, "Swim if you can"
    And they swam and they swam all over the dam
