    Great article Rick. Sounds like an awesome day to me.

    I had a similar experience last weekend here in Colorado. As I found the bass at the edges of the weeds, they were specific about what weed they wanted. The bass hung out under the thicker, "topwater" weeds that provided shade as well as cover. The gills and crappie used the rest of the weeds they could find for cover.

    I'll make an open assumtion here and leave it open for discussion. I believe that the taller/thinner bodies of the gills and crappie aren't affected as much by the sunlight penetrating the water. The bass, being, wider framed, tend to look for the shade to maintain their body temp better.

    Just a silly idea I thought of, as it was close to 100 degrees that day.

    Bass look for structure first and foremost, IMHO because that is where they get their food.
