One of my many vices is picking up out of print fly fishing books, pattern books, and the like. Recently found a part of a series published by Field and Stream. In the pattern book the pattern "Caterpillar" caught my eye. Three turns of hackle at the hook bend, Yellow/green floss body. peacock herl back over wrapped with wire,Three turns of hackle at the front.Thread head. I tied this on a size 12 streamer hook and on some I added a bead head for depth. Holy cow do the Gills, Rock Bass, and Largemouth Bass like this fly. In two hours on Fathers day morning fishing around piers and fallen trees, 14 LMB,3 Rock Bass largest 14",multiple gills the largest over 9". Sometimes the simple flies work the best.
