Given our past history of agreement on many diverse issues, I have absolutely no doubt that we will reach consensus and decide on the single, best warmwater fishing state. Oh, and gas will drop to 38 cents a gallon in the next two weeks. 8T

BTW, my vote would be for Florida even though I live in South Carolina.

You had better learn to be a happy camper. You only get one try at this campground and it's a real short camping season.

    Danged Eight Thumbs,

    I can't believe a fellow Sandlapper
would give the nod to Florida. Not when
the world record red eared sunfish came out
of Lake Moultrie, and is subject to be
eclipsed any day now.*G* Maybe you should
come visit me for a day or two in a few
weeks when they turn on.*G* Bring your
    3 weight. Warm regards, Jim

    Florida & Texas ?

Sure for "salt water" but that is another forum. I took this as a "fresh water" forum seeing about two clicks down we have a salt water forum.

Having lived in Texas a couple years the best fishing was in the gulf. Inland it was mostly snake invested ponds.
Florida is the salt water king if you don't mind crowds. But, fresh water ? It drops off quick after bucket mouths.

It's surely the Great Lakes, I would not live only 45 minutes from "one of the ponds" and put up with the winters if the fresh water fishing was not top shelf. Just lots more water in the region, be it lakes, rivers, creeks, etc. The further south I go the longer the drive is to what they "call a river" and lakes are spoty.

    Jim,

I do feel like a bit of a traitor. South Carolina does have great fishing, absolutely no question about it. Especially in view of your legendary red ear sunfish. I may give you a chance to convert me to your way of thinking later in the spring or early summer. If you throw in a Dremel lesson, its a deal. 8T

Wisconsin, hands down. Michigan second. The opportunity is mind boggling. I live an hour drive or less from good water for smallmouth, largemouth, walleye, pike, perch, rock bass, crappie, bluegill, carp, musky, white bass, catfish, gar, sauger and then there's the whole sorted trout and salmon thing. Just this evening I was fishing walleyes on the fly and landed a legal one (28" this time of year here, it's a trophy fisheree) and a few casts later a nice brown trout. Does it get any better than that?
