Our Peacock Bass "Laukanini" where I fish grow up to about 10 lbs, I have caught a 9 3/4" lb fish using a Cabelas plug, shallow diver, lots of 6-8 lb on spoons, But I have not been able to get anythin over 4 lbs on a fly, I have switched completely to fly and refuse to spin but knowing the big ones are just sitting there is testing my resolve.I know it has to be the size of the plug vs the size of the fly, but the flies I make and use are as large as the spoons I used, The water is fast running rapids and stained, I had suspected it was the drag on the fly line in the current and was considering trying a double taper line.

    nseereeram,
I've never fished for them but I'll bet I've seen 20 or so TV shows doing it. The ones I see are usually using big topwater lures with props like Woodchoppers that really stir the water. Have you tried something like a Bob's Banger with a really long mylar or EP fibre tail to create the image of size? The Banger really kicks up a lot of water commotion. Stripers are agressive surface feeders at times, like the Peacock bass and I've had good success with the Banger's on Stripers. I'll bet if you could post a photo of what type of lure is taking them, someone on this board could help you design a fly to match it. I'll bet Jim Hatch or Buddy or someone could help you design something, maybe in foam with a long tail.
