Zebra Mussels Discovered in Minnesota's Lake Mille Lacs

Lake Mille Lac, 200 square mile lake,is the Mecca for Minnesota Walleye Angler's. Minnesotan's love to fish for walleye, and Lake Mille Lac by tradition is "The Place" to fish for them.

Now there is the report, Zebra Mussels have been found in Lake Mille Lac.

Two Adult Zebra Mussels have been found in the northern area of Lake Mille Lac, by fish bilogist from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Mille Lacs Band of the Ojibwe, control a 4,000 acre reservation on the western shoreline of Lake Mille Lac.

Lake Mille Lac, is under special harvest rules, between the government and the Mille Lac Band of the Ojibwe, because of the 1855 Treaty.

With the reinstatement of the 1855 Treaty, the Mille Lac Band of the Ojibwe, have recovered hunting and fishing rights, to a large area of East-Central Minnesota, that were lost in 1913, by Congressional and Presidental orders.

Since the the reinstatement of lost rights, Lake Mille Lac has had a harvest limit for both the Ojibwe and for the Public for walleye and other fish in the lake.

This is a lake that has never been stocked by the DNR, and is considered to be the Premier Walleye Lake in Minnesota. Now the terrible news of "Zebra Mussels!
