Folks, we've got a catastrophe in athe making here in northern Michigan.

There's a spume of groundwater 3,000 feet long and 50 feet deep (fifty acres) athat's been contaminated by hydrocarbon drilling. It's drifting dangerously close to the Manistee River, and the oil company charged with the cleanup, Merit Energy, wants to "treat" the water and then pump it into a tributary of the AuSable River--even though that's out of its normal watershed. It's cheaper that way for the oil company, though!
