Congradulations on attaining Eagle rank. To inject a little humor every year I took a group down to Wood National Cemetary to place flags on veterans graves. The first year one of my more creative scouts mentioned that he realized it was a loosy meat but why fight a war over it? Huh? I went to the grave and it mention the soldiers name rank and then SP AM War. (Spanish American) I still chuckle.
Last year we were finishing up when a person asked us to help him. At each grave he cleaned the stone, placed the flag, came to attention and saluted. I've never seen a bunch of boys get quieter. He told the scouts upon finishing that all buried there were his brothers and sisters.
Trivia .There are over 25 symbols approved for military grave markers. Some are obvious Multiple different crosses, Star of David,Teepee for Native Americans, and the one that really made me take a second look was an "Atom" the soldier was an atheist.
