Jerry:
"the reason I feel 50 is a milestone can be found in oldfrat's post. I come to realize that at 50 I have lived over half my life and with the time that is left quality of life is paramount"

But look at that statement from the other side, Jerry. You've now lived long enough to make most of the mistakes you shouldn't have, you have almost mastered the basic casting skills necessary for fly fishing, and you have checked off some minor goals and narrowed down the list of major ones to a size that is potentially manageable.

The best days of my life began at 44 and 50 was a day to have sushi on the beach and dance with Gloria. I have moments when I realize that I'm on the back edge of the longevity curve. But then, in all honesty, I have been since I shipped back from Vietnam. Many Americans have been on the back edge since they got their first driver's license.

Keep climbing. The view from the summit is worth it and there is always another summit.
