Default Scientific Anglers did good by me

I have an older inexpensive SA system 1 reel. Changing from left hand to right hand for one of my scouts. I knocked one of the check pawls off. Duh! E-mailed the company on their web site they e-mailed me a schematic back so I could match the correct parts #. Replacement and an extra for when I screw up next time are in the mail. it seems like a little thing but I'll remember their service.

Those older SA 1's are work horses. I have a System 1 7/8/9 ratchet and pawl reel that I still use from time to time. Wish I had a 4/5/6 as well. And you are right on about SA as a company. Top notch service from a top notch company.

I have several reels, among them are a Bauer MXP2 and 2 SA System One 4/5/6's that I've owned for around 25 years. Let's just say the 456's have a lot of "character" these days but they work just fine and sound great.

I use both the Bauer and 456 as my go to reels. Value wise, the 456 beats the Bauer hands down.
