Maine in October

I'm going to be in Southern Maine towards the end of October. Have never fished the salt before and was wondering if anything is happening this time of the year?

I'd say you'll be a bit too late for the salt but what do I know. Might want to bring the 5 wt and look for some of the famous native brook trout of Maine.

Absolutely positively do not miss the opportunity to go to Freeport to the LL Bean Hunting and Fishing Store. Awesome. Don't forget to hit the outlet at the bottom of the hill as well. They often have some nice rods on clearance.

I am not sure what waters are open that time of year, even for Brookies. There might be some hold over Stripers, susually schoolies in the inlets, but unfortunately it is a little past season.

Salter trout maybe? Near kittery trading post I saw people flinging flies about that time of year in the past in an estuary tributary...maybe RW couls shed some light..

I know it was a joke, but when it comes to the state of Maine warden service and fishing there are no jokes. You are more likely to see a warden in the woods up there than you are to see a cop in the city around here.

Every month there is a new rule enacted that isn't even in the current years rule book that wardens get my pop on with his ATV or Snowmobile without a warning.
