    Default KNOTS

Just wondering if anyone uses a Bristol knot and a Spider Hitch for their saltwater fishing.

I use it frequently for alot of light saltwater fishing.

I don't knot the Bristol knot. I use the spider hitch for big game fishing with heavy gear when I need a doubled line. But it does not provide the same type of shock absorbtion that a bimini does so I don't use it for light tackle/fly fishing (ever try to tie a bimini in 80lb mono?).

I haven't used the Bristol knot before, but I used the spider/spyder hitch quite a bit over the years for doubling my line. I can't think of a time that it's failed.

I never had much luck at tying a spider hitch. so when I want a doubled line I use a bimini or a multi-turn surgeon.
A spider is really nothing more than a 7 turn surgeon.
The simpler the outfit, the more skill it takes to manage it, and the more pleasure one gets in his achievements.
