making leaders

In learning to make ones own leaders I see the Cabelas catalog has a Whitlock's line splicing kit. Does this kit realy give you anything that the books don't teach?

To make your own, all you need is to practice knots (and you will).

Play with the leaders too to find the recipe you like.
