We did a snoop at a local pond very recently and the 1/4" "black-dot" tadpoles and barely visible 1/4" fry brought back to memory a feeding frenzy we were fortunate enough to witness.
The saltwater boy are privy to such sceens, I would imagine, a bit more frequently than most, and from further afar usually.
I remembered a friend and self standing on the dock at the marina in town. Brackish water so guestimate as to species of participants not deemed accurate, to say the least.
However, we were quite entertained one morning watching large fish (guestimated to be stripers), 1 1/2" in length ravaging "baitfish" that were of the 1/8"-1/4" variety. It took some close looking to even see that the "baitfish" were present after the mini-flashes of the "predator" fish attracted us to the "event". The whole frenzy appeared to be confined to about a 4' circle of water containing quite a large number of participants.....maybe a bajillion?
Nature is facinating to observe even though she is often ruthless (sp) in the application of her laws.
Elephants may eat peanuts....but big fish DO eat little fish!
