Thread: Circle hook question

  1. #1

    Default Circle hook question

I am curious if anyone is using them for midges. I was impressed how all the trout were hooked lightly and in the front section or middle at worst in the mouth. I know they are not cheap but I think it would be a good option for gills, crappie and trout. Appreciate any good opinios for tying and which fly you recommend.

I use them for streamers, I find they dont get caught up in throats, of big bull trout and pike. something that is an issue with stanard streamer hooks. And they seem to be the same price and heavier so they sink faster.

    Philip,

I use them for a lot of patterns, from dry flies to nymphs and streamers. Really good for those dries that you can't see well, like on broken water, splotchy light, or dusk. I use them for any fly where detecting the strike is hard, or where getting a good hook set is a problem.

They are great for beginners, as you don't have to worry about setting the hook.

I do find that I have to watch myself carefully when fishing with them, so that I don't set and inadvertantly pop the fly out of the fish.

In any event, they are very effective hooks.

    Good luck!

    Buddy

What is the hook number, and what size circle hook are you using for midges?
