A wild swan carcass carrying the H5N1 strain of the avian flu virus has been found in Scotland in the UK.

I suppose it was only time before the virus hit us. As I said before Millions of wild birds enter our country at this time of year during migrations. We commonly get birds from the US coming here. Last week I was watching two American Green Winged Teal which had joined a large flock of our native European Teal. Presumably the US will get visitors from Europe also.

Scientists point out that it is highly unlikly it will affect humans, and that Chicken and poulty is perfectly safe to eat provided it is properly cooked.

Time will tell if this will affect fly tyers or not.
