We have a WF4F/S III that gets tossed a bit on the 3wt. It used to do us a grand job targeting some of the cutts in some of the "sink ponds" between Warden and Othello.
The same line and rod did well on some spent steelhead on Alder Creek for which one needs to get down in moving water.
We pulled the boat over a stingray three times that was "incidentally" hooked while targeting halibut with this rod and a shooting head system.
We would just say to "go for it". It seems the rod should have capability beyond what you are asking of it.......so far.
Use a heavy enough tippet so's you can pull'em in, use your rod properly, and the fish will do fine. Again ....
