Hi FG....a BWO Sparkle Dun is basicly a comparadun with a shuck instead of split tails. The shuck is usually antron or z lon in a brownish shade. Hope that's what you were looking for....Jason

FG: gotta love the sparkle dun. One of my favorite flies to fish during bwo hatches. Too bad I hate tying them (I am terrible with the deer hair on them LOL). I also like to use them with CDC instead of deer hair...works really good for smaller sizes on slow moving waters/stillwaters )

I found the best instructions on the intermediate tying series by AC.

I know what you mean. I think I will try to tie one cripple style. CDC would be great on 18's and smaller....good Idea!
Actually the one I was using almost looked like hackle with the bottom trimmed.

FG: My dad caught a few fish on the Madison this weekend while using a size 20 CDC sparkle dun even though there were no mayflies present. It makes a fair midge emerger pattern as well which is why I tie them in size 18-22 for stillwaters.

I have moved over to rabbit foot for the wings on such flies, no need to stack the 'hare' and very durable.

GregH: I also use hair from a snowshoe hare's foot as well. I forgot about that, but i also works very well....hmmm maybe I should sit down and tie a few up tonite .
