    Default Stuck in my head

Ever have a pattern stuck upstairs and the only way to get it down is to tie it to a hook.

I recently purchased a book because all the pictures were so clear and concise and some fo the patterns were very interesting.

This book has listed in it with the wet flies the Gossling. This fly is a suggestion of a larger species of pale lake dwelling Mayfly. I'll never know the scientific name, only so much room in the ol data bank if you know what I mean.

What did get stuck in between a couple of brain cells is the pattern itself. A simple yet beautiful fly, and it'll drive my nuts til its tied.

Ever have this problem? Kinda like a tune that keeps playing over and over in ones noggin. -Yaf

Yep. Got one now. Was in the DR. office last month when I saw a poster that had several flies on it. The one that caught my eye looked like it had bucktail for body and tail, black over red,(or was it red over black?), ribbed with what might be copper wire. And had a small spun deer head and collar. Now if I can just get my daughter away from my workbench long enough for me to set up the tying equipment maybe I can get this image out of my head.

PS. I was trying to pay attention to the DR so I didn't catch the name of the fly. He was mumbling something about 3 little holes in my knee and cutting something. All I remember is it hurt my wallet as much as my knee.

Maybe I should of scanned the pictur, ha...

Swen, I think I've seen that one somewhere, but can't remeber the name or proper materials for the fly.

    Yaf,

The imitation is for the Ephemera Danica, or simply Mayfly. I agree that the Gosling is a fun fly to tie.

Here is one of my ties:

    Hans, thanks!! nice tie!
In the pattern book that I have, it called for 3 turns of the orange and three turns of the mallard, so heavily dressed compared to the soft hackles that I am used to tying.
I'm not sure if they got that right, but I do like it that way, bigger head though, all that mallard stem to hide.
Also for some reason I thought it would look good on a salmon hook.
