I've been tying some eggs today, using egg yarn. I was having some trouble controlling the material to get a good tie.

Experimenting, I hitched on hackle pliers, trimmed the yarn at the right edge of the pliers, cut off about an inch of yarn to the left, brought the yarn down over the hook and got a perfect wrap. The weight and clamping action of the hackle pliers made it real easy to get perfect wraps around the middle of the yarn prior to removing the hackle pliers and trimming the egg.

Somebody else has undoubtedly discovered this before me, but I was proud to discover it on my own.
