I'm not asking about soft hackle flies, I'm asking about "soft hackles". With all the late genetic engineering of "super" dry fly necks and saddles the serious efforts in maintaining hen necks has been abandoned. Metz no longer lists "brown" necks as such(even their Micro-barb saddles for dries are all furnace as acknowledged by them). Whiting's so called "brown hen necks are almost completely black. They should be able to breed brown chickens since they started with Rhode Island Reds in the first place. If they can't, why not just dye whites from the descendants of Leghorns.?
I remain discouraged.
P.S. I just called Cabella's and was told they no longer list Whiting "white" hen necks that would allow me to dye my own.
