I have been experimenting with some realistic fishable patterns, bugs that look real but are still fishable as opposed to those tied just for display.

In my web searches I have seen some very nice looking insect wings made from bits of hackle fibers embedded in some kind of lacquer or varnish film.

Does anyone know what kind of material is used to make these? I have tried Loon Hard Head, Soft Body and several urethane based varnishes but all of these products produce films that are quite fragile. I would like to find something tough enough to survive at least one fish...
